IGI · ANC · Competent authorities

Our analysis begins with your circumstances: nationality, the purpose of coming to Romania, available documents and any proceedings already underway. We assess the legal requirements, prepare the documentation and assist with matters before the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI), the National Authority for Citizenship (ANC) and other competent authorities.

Visas and residence rights

We provide legal assistance with short-stay and long-stay visas, the granting and extension of temporary residence rights and applications for long-term residence.

We assess the requirements applicable to the declared purpose — employment, studies, family or other circumstances provided by law — and the supporting documents. We prepare submissions and replies to requests for further information and assist clients in dealings with IGI and consular authorities.

Employment of foreign nationals

We assist employers and foreign nationals with the legal steps relating to employment, secondment and maintaining residence rights for work. We examine the applicable procedure and documents according to the category of worker and the employer’s circumstances.

We coordinate immigration requirements with the employment relationship and assess the legal implications of a change of employer, role or termination of the contract. For related matters, see our employment law services.

Family and citizenship

We assist with family reunification and the residence rights of family members, assessing the legal requirements and preparing documents supporting the applicant’s circumstances.

For Romanian citizenship, we assess eligibility for acquisition or reacquisition, prepare the application file and assist clients with proceedings before the National Authority for Citizenship. We explain each stage, requests for additional documents and the steps requiring the applicant’s personal attendance.

Challenges and litigation

We assess refusals, cancellation or revocation of residence rights and other decisions affecting a client’s legal status. We identify the available legal remedy, review deadlines and prepare the relevant arguments and evidence.

We represent clients before the competent courts, subject to the applicable law. Where an application remains unresolved, we assess the authority’s obligations and the remedies available under the relevant procedure. These services connect with our administrative litigation practice.

Preparing for the initial consultation

  • Your nationality, current location and the purpose of the application.
  • Your visa or residence permit, where applicable, and its expiry date.
  • Applications submitted, registration references and correspondence with authorities.
  • Any refusal or decision received, together with the date it was communicated.

The relevant documents are reviewed within our professional engagement. We explain which information and documents are needed for your circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

How does a visa differ from a residence permit?

A visa and a residence permit serve different purposes. Visas may be for short or long stays; a residence permit documents residence rights granted under the applicable law. The procedure depends on nationality, the purpose of the stay and the individual circumstances.

Can you assist me while I am outside Romania?

Yes. The initial assessment and preparation of documents can be arranged remotely. We identify separately the stages at which the law and the competent authority require personal attendance.

Do you also assist employers?

Yes. An engagement may cover immigration procedures for employing foreign nationals and related legal issues arising from employment relationships.

What should I do if my application has been refused?

The assessment starts with the complete decision, its reasons and evidence of the date of communication. We examine the specific procedure, deadlines and requirements for an administrative challenge or court proceedings.
